This well-made and entertaining series was the first independent production for the BBC, and brings together the always excellent Don Henderson and ex-East Ender Leslie Grantham.
Episode 1.1: Unfrocked in Babylon
Stretched AEC Routemaster RML2256 (CUV256C) is used in a robbery:
This RML is however not quite what it seems! CUV256C was new as RCL2256, a Green Line coach. It was new in 1965, and became part of the National Bus company-owned London Country fleet in 1970. London Transport bought it for use as a driver trainer in 1978, painted it red and removed the doors. This is not the whole story, however; in 1980 it was rebuilt with a standard RM platform after an accident - which explains why an RCL no longer looks like an RCL in this view:
The bus was sold to Brakell of Cheam in 1985, and I believe it was still with Brakell when filmed for 'The Paradise Club' in 1989. (History taken from the excellent Ian's Bus Stop)
Later in the episode we see Midland Scottish MPT142 (D142HMS) in Scottish Citylink livery arriving in London. It's a Duple bodied Leyland Tiger:
Episode 1.6: Up Jumped a Swagperson:
In the background of a scene a Grey Green Volvo Citybus/Alexander is followed by a London Buses Red Arrow Leyland National 2
Episode 1.9: Sins of the Fathers part 1:
Haven't been able to identify this bus carrying registration plate JLY750K, but chalked inside the window is 43RN?? - does this indicate it's ex Royal Navy?
